The President of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), Engr. Bawa Mohammed, expressed that the two hosts of the recently concluded 11th All Africa University Games (FASU) greatly benefited from organizing the tournament. The University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU) welcomed athletes from over 70 universities across Africa. Of these, 21 universities came from 13 countries outside Nigeria, including Ghana, Uganda, Burundi, Guinea, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Tanzania, Mauritius, Angola, Kenya, and Egypt. Bawa praised both universities, calling them "partners in progress" and "trailblazers."

He highlighted that the Games provided students with the opportunity to network, build friendships across the continent, and compete at a high level with their peers. The excellent facilities provided for the Games, according to Bawa, will help improve students' performances in various sports disciplines.

“I’m very pleased with the outstanding organization by both universities, which ensured a smooth and successful tournament, making it one of the best in the history of the championship,” he said.

He also commended the Vice-Chancellors of both institutions, referring to them as "great Amazons" for their leadership and contribution to elevating Nigeria’s profile in the sporting world. He acknowledged the remarkable upgrades to the sporting facilities at UNILAG and LASU, noting that students would benefit from them as they prepare for future competitions, including the NUGA Games, the National Sports Festival, and the next edition of the FASU Games in Egypt.

Additionally, Bawa noted that some standout athletes from the Games would join the African contingent for the upcoming World University Games. He encouraged other Nigerian universities to follow UNILAG and LASU’s example by improving their sporting infrastructure, which would benefit both students and staff.

The Games, which concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony at the LASU Sports Centre, saw the American University in Cairo, Egypt, retain their title from two years ago in Kenya. LASU and UNILAG finished in second and third place, respectively. Athletes competed in a range of sports, including football, athletics, basketball, volleyball, chess, scrabble, e-sports, taekwondo, judo, cricket, badminton, handball, squash, swimming, table tennis, and tennis
