Nigerian rapper and social activist Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has shared his reservations about potentially raising children in Nigeria, citing security concerns and backlash from his activism as key factors in his hesitation.

The artist behind the critically acclaimed track “This Is Nigeria” opened up about this deeply personal topic during his appearance on the Dear Ife Series Podcast, hosted by Ifedayo Agoro. When directly asked whether he would raise his future children in Nigeria, Falz found himself grappling with a question he admitted caught him off guard.
“Ah! That’s a deep question. I didn’t expect to hear this question. I haven’t really thought that far, let me not lie,” the rapper responded candidly.

His hesitation stems from multiple concerns about Nigeria’s current state, including ongoing security challenges, threats he faces due to his outspoken activism, and what he perceives as widespread public apathy among citizens.

These factors have created genuine uncertainty about whether Nigeria would provide a safe environment for his potential future family.

“It’s something that I can’t actually say ‘yes’ to because of what we are talking about,” Falz explained, referencing the country’s insecurity issues and the personal risks associated with his activist work.

However, the entertainer’s response revealed the internal conflict many patriotic Nigerians face when considering their country’s future. Despite his concerns, Falz couldn’t definitively rule out raising children in Nigeria either.

“I can’t also outrightly say ‘no’ because I’m pro-Nigerian and I really believe that we can actually get it right. But I don’t know, I don’t know, but let’s see,” he concluded with a nervous laugh that underscored the weight of the decision.

Currently single and without children, Falz’s contemplation reflects broader conversations among young Nigerians about the country’s trajectory and their role in shaping its future while protecting their families’ wellbeing.
