The President of the Ex-University of Ibadan Footballers Association (EXUIFA), Edwin Evbie, has delivered an emotional tribute to members of the association worldwide, describing the commissioning of the new 7-Aside Astro Turf in the University of Ibadan as a historic achievement born out of unity, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.

 

Speaking shortly after the formal commissioning of the multimillion-naira facility, Evbie said his “heart is full,” reflecting on the long journey that began with a dream and ended in the successful delivery of what he called “the greatest alumni-driven sports infrastructure project anywhere on the planet.”

 

“From the moment we first spoke about this project, to the long days on site, to the final moment the 7-Aside Astro Pitch was commissioned today, we all stood together with strength, loyalty, and unity,” he said.

 

Evbie paid glowing tribute to the EXCO and the two project committees, acknowledging their courage, sleepless nights, and unshakable commitment.

“Every call, every late-night discussion, every challenge that came up, you handled it with unbelievable commitment,” he said.

 

He also praised the Board of Trustees, whose leadership, he noted, provided clarity and stability throughout the project.

“To our BOT, your guidance and steady leadership kept us grounded. You gave us direction when we needed clarity and strength when the pressure mounted,” he added.

 

The EXUIFA President extended heartfelt appreciation to members of the association across the world, noting that their encouragement, financial sacrifices, and trust in the leadership made the landmark project possible.

“The turf and the structure are impressive, but the real foundation of this project is our unity and your trust in our leadership,” he said. “Today, we didn’t just complete a CSR project. We made history.”

 

In characteristic humour, Evbie described the project as the greatest alumni-driven sports project “on the planet, Mars and Jupiter,” adding that the accomplishment symbolises brotherhood, legacy, and a gift to future generations.

 

Evbie highlighted exceptional individual contributions, singling out Busari Abiodun, whose personal financial sacrifices greatly supported the project, and Henry Duru, the project manager, for his relentless dedication. He also thanked Coach Kassim for his early confidence in the project and Lawrence Osuagwu for “holding the fort against all odds.”

 

Closing his message with a rallying call, Evbie reaffirmed the bond that defines the association:

“One love. One family. One EXUIFA.”

 

The commissioning of the Astro Turf marks another milestone for EXUIFA, underscoring the power of alumni solidarity and the association’s growing impact on the University of Ibadan’s sporting landscape.
