Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has publicly criticized the recent endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North West, warning that the electorate will not forget the harsh realities they face daily.

 

Baba-Ahmed, who only recently resigned from his role in the Presidency, took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account to denounce the endorsement ceremony held over the weekend in Kaduna, where key APC stakeholders backed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

 

During the high-profile event, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, moved a motion for Tinubu’s endorsement, which was seconded by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, and supported by other North West governors and top APC officials. The party also offered automatic second-term tickets to incumbent governors from the zone, drawing praise from APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who lauded Tinubu’s leadership and developmental strides.

 

But Baba-Ahmed sharply disagreed, calling out the political elite for ignoring the struggles of the people.

 

“APC Govs in NW recently endorsed PBAT, endorsed themselves and every elected office holder and defectors from the region. They forgot the people who will judge all politicians against their exposure to violence, death and poverty. It’s almost as if they think people don’t matter,” he wrote.

 

His remarks reflect growing frustration among many Nigerians, particularly in the North West, where insecurity, economic hardship, and disillusionment with political leadership continue to dominate public discourse.

 

The former aide’s comments have reignited debate around the performance of the Tinubu administration and the role of political loyalty in the face of deteriorating living conditions. Critics argue that early endorsements are out of touch with the current socioeconomic climate, while supporters maintain that the President deserves more time to implement reforms.

 

As the 2027 elections remain years away, Baba-Ahmed’s bold stance is seen by many as a signal of possible political realignment and a call for leaders to prioritize substance over ceremony.
