Federal Government on Tuesday clarified that the Visa on Arrival (VOA), also known as the E-Visa, has not been scrapped but upgraded to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

In a statement issued in Abuja, by the Director General of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, addressed concerns regarding the policy.

"I met with the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to discuss the Visa on Arrival process. The meeting aimed to clarify the government's position and address concerns surrounding the initiative," she stated.

"During the discussion, the Minister assured that the VOA process remains in place but has been improved for greater efficiency. This upgrade aligns with PEBEC's ongoing efforts to streamline procedures and reduce bureaucratic obstacles to doing business in Nigeria.

"The Minister further explained that travellers will continue to apply online for short-stay visas, with approvals granted within 24 to 48 hours. Once approved, the visa will be sent directly to the applicant’s email, eliminating the need for a physical sticker upon arrival.

"This enhancement builds on the existing online approval system, making the process more seamless and ensuring travellers receive their approvals ahead of time," the statement read.

"The upgraded system is designed to eliminate inefficiencies, automate processes, and provide better control over the inflow of travellers. With this development, Nigeria strengthens its commitment to improving the business environment and attracting foreign investment."
