Enyimba FC Suffers Shock Caf Champions League Elimination
By: Chuks Ogbu
It was a moment of shock despair and disappointment as two time African Champions Enyimba FC of Aba Nigeria for the first time failed to go beyond the first preliminary stage of the CAF Champions league.
The People's Elephant's against all odds failed to build more on the away goals the team scored in the 3-4 loss in Libya last weekend as they played out a disappointing goalless draw against visiting Al Ahly Benghazi and thus got eliminated 4-3 on aggregate.
With the first leg result, the People’s Elephant needed an outright win to ensure passage into the next round but all the ball possessions and barrage of attacks mounted by the Nigerian Champions yielded no goal.
A victory for Enyimba FC would have taken them through to the second round of the preliminaries and it would have also been a befitting way to welcome new Club Chairman Nwankwo Kanu and also to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the creation of Abia State.
The team will now focus their attention on the upcoming Nigerian Premier League season and the African Football League.
