City FC of Abuja during the week, returned to the country after a week long playing tour of Spain.

According to the Chairman of the Club Honourable Chidi Okonkwo said the tour was a memorable one in Villarreal, Spain, and was facilitated by the Laliga Office in Nigeria. 

He said  the Citizens  gave a good account of themselves in Europe - on and off the pitch - after impressing scouts, and the host team, Villarreal CF. 

Quoting his words, Okonkwo who is the President of Nigeria National League Club Owners and Managers Association said "We thank Nigerians for  the love and support we receive from everyone back home". 

"We played 5 matches in Villarreal one game against the main team, two games against Villarreal B and one against Villarreal C". 

Then we ended the pre season game with our last game against C.D Roda before returning back to Nigeria ". 

"I really want to appreciate most especially La Liga through their office in Nigeria who really stood by us and made sure our trip to Spain was possible as a football club. We want to say thank you for their supports because without them, I don't think the trip would have been possible. We also appreciate the Villarreal sports counsel and the entire city of Villarreal for their warm reception. it was wonderful and a very good experience for the boys and we hope that our relationship with Spanish community will add a lot of value to City FC in fulfilment of our vision for the Football Club". 

Continuing the Chidi Okonkwo who was the former Chairman of Delta United FC said "Now we are back home to get ready for the new season which kicks off next weekend and in preparation, City FC will be playing NAF FC in a grade A friendly on Sunday 3pm at Old Parade Ground and on Monday we will play another grade A friendly against Nasarawa United by 8am at Old Parade Ground Area 10" .

He was full of appreciation to all the fans and supporters of the club for standing solidly behind them all through this period "our supporters have been the key to the our success of this club  and we will continue to strive hard to put a lot of smile to your faces when we gain promotion to the NPFL at the end of 2023/2024 Football Season" he concluded .
