Emmanuela James Wins Imo SWAN Heartland Queens December Player of the Month Award
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has named Emmanuela James as the Heartland Queens Player of the Month for December 2025, following a voting exercise conducted by its members.
James emerged as the clear winner, surpassing teammates goalkeeper Christiana Obia and Ebubechi Ozuruigbo, under the supervision of Imo SWAN Chairman, Cosmos Chukwuemeka.
In a press statement issued by SWAN Secretary Tunde Liadi, the Association highlighted James’ outstanding contributions to Heartland Queens, both on and off the pitch. The award reflects the collective assessment of sports journalists in the state, who were impressed by her influence, consistency, and leadership during December.
James’ selection was driven by her remarkable performances throughout the month. She finished as the team’s top goal scorer, netting two goals and providing two assists. She earned man-of-the-match honours against Naija Ratels, opening the scoring and assisting the equaliser that secured a crucial point in Abuja. She also scored the winning goal against Ekiti Queens and consistently created attacking opportunities against Edo Queens, demonstrating her creativity and playmaking abilities.
Reacting to the award, Chairman Cosmos Chukwuemeka praised James for her consistency, work rate, and overall impact on the team. He described her recognition as a well-deserved reward for dedication and hard work, and encouraged her to maintain her form as the league resumes after the Yuletide break.
Chukwuemeka reaffirmed Imo SWAN’s commitment to celebrating excellence and promoting professionalism in women’s football across the state.
James, along with inaugural award winner Chizoba Johnson, will receive her plaque during Heartland Queens’ next home game.
