Super Eagles Head Coach, Augustine 'Cerezo' Eguavoen, is full of confidence that Nigeria will overcome Libya in the AFCON double header starting from Friday, 11 October, 2024.

'Cerezo', as the former Super Eagles defender is fondly called, Insists that Libya will not pose a stumbling block for Nigeria's ambition of qualifying for the 2025 Nations Cup billed for Morocco.

Without sounding boastful or underrating the Mediterrenean Knights, Eguavoen told reporters at the Four Points Hotel Camp of Super Eagles in Ikot Ekpene on Wednesday that Libya will be the last hurdle Nigeria will scale before landing the 2025 Nations ticket.

Over the two legs, Eguavoen reckons the Super Eagles will are condemned to fly over the Mediterrenean Knights for the 2025 AFCON finals showpiece in Morocco.

“We have to be practical about it; our best and surest route to the finals will be to pick up the six points in the matches with Libya, and be somewhat guaranteed of a place in Morocco even before Matchday 5", Eguavoen said. 

"We don’t want to be in any anxiety in the run-in in this qualifying campaign.
 
“I admit we will miss Victor (Osimhen), but I believe in the other strikers available to get us the goals that will give us the three points in Uyo, and the three points in Libya".

After the first game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday evening, Eagles will fly out on Sunday for the return leg match at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benina, 19 kilometres from Libya’s second city Benghazi, on Tuesday night.

Nigeria with four points from their two matches lead the group so far, one point ahead of Benin Republic and two ahead of Rwanda. 

“There are possibilities and opportunities for us to sail home at the end of these two matches, and we will do our best to take our chances and have the ticket in hand before the final round of games,” Eguavoen stressed.
