The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, delivered a blunt message during the 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, taking a swipe at Seyi Makinde.

 

“A fight you can’t fight, don’t start it,” Wike declared, describing as “unfortunate” alleged claims by Makinde regarding meetings involving him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He insisted such assertions were misleading.

 

“It’s unfortunate—a fight you cannot fight, you started,” Wike added.

 

The FCT Minister also cautioned against treating politics like a business venture, drawing a sharp distinction between governance and contract work.

 

“You wanted money; I wanted power. Stay where you are as a contractor,” he said. “Politics is not a contract of Shell. I didn’t go into politics to be a contractor. I went into politics to have power.”

 

Wike used the platform to warn party members against engaging in unnecessary political battles, emphasizing that success in politics requires strategy rather than bravado.

 

Ahead of the party’s March 29–30 national convention, he issued a stern warning on loyalty, stating that members who fail to show commitment should not expect to be welcomed back afterward.

 

“After this NEC meeting, anybody that doesn’t show commitment to the convention… I will not accept that,” he said.

 

Despite his strong remarks, Wike also called for unity within the party, urging leaders to pursue genuine reconciliation while maintaining sincerity among members.
