The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, has confirmed his participation in the 3rd edition of the Ogun Women Run, set to take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The event, organized by Brussels Sports Management Limited, is a 5-kilometer race dedicated to empowering women in sports and promoting healthy living among Nigerian women. It will kick off at Sapon and culminate at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta.

Speaking about the importance of the race, Hon. Olopade lauded the initiative as a crucial platform to showcase Nigeria’s abundant sporting talent while advocating for greater support for women in sports.

“It is pertinent to attend the 3rd edition of the Ogun Women Run, considering the pool of talents we have in our nation and the dire need to support women in sports,” he stated. “Data has shown that the pathway has always been more difficult for females. However, when we reflect on recent international competitions, Nigerian women have made us proud by winning medals and accolades in various sports. It’s essential we continuously support them in this challenging terrain.”

The Ogun Women Run is open to female participants aged 25 to 60 and aims to inspire women to embrace fitness while contributing to grassroots sports development in Nigeria.

Hon. Olopade also urged the organizers to ensure this year’s event leaves a lasting impact, particularly on young girls, by fostering confidence and encouraging them to break boundaries.

“This race is more than a competition; it’s an avenue to promote healthy living and motivate the next generation to pursue excellence in sports,” he added.
