Delta State Reaffirms Readiness to Host 9th National Youth Games in Asaba

The Joint Technical Meeting (JTM) for the ninth National Youth Games concluded in Asaba, Delta State, at the weekend, with the host state restating its preparedness to deliver a world-class sporting festival from August 26 to September 6, 2025.
Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, said all outstanding issues were resolved during the meeting, adding that the National Sports Commission (NSC) had confirmed the official schedule for the event.
“Delta State is fully ready to host a befitting Games. We have successfully hosted the last two editions and will once again ensure that the event meets the highest standards,” Oborevwori told The Guardian.
The Games will bring together the country’s best young athletes to compete for medals and national recognition. Over recent months, both the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) have inspected and certified facilities to ensure they meet competition requirements.
The build-up to the Games will begin with registration from August 16 to 20, 2025, alongside zonal eliminations between August 16 and 18. The pre-delegates registration meeting (Pre-DRM) will hold on August 19 and 20, focusing on the correction of athletes’ details, photos, and double registrations. The Delegates Registration Meeting (DRM) will follow from August 21 to 24, before the main competition kicks off on August 26.
Oborevwori reaffirmed the state’s commitment to organising a successful championship that will not only highlight Nigeria’s future sports stars but also promote unity, discipline, and excellence through sports.
