Delta Queens Football Club of Asaba have taken a decisive step toward restoring their dominance in Nigerian women’s football with the appointment of Coach Stanley Osazee as the club’s new Head Coach.

 

The appointment, which signals a fresh technical direction for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) side, was formally unveiled on Monday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba. The ceremony was presided over by the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori.

 

According to the Commission, the decision to appoint Osazee is a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening the club’s technical framework, improving its current league standing, and ensuring sustained competitiveness among Nigeria’s elite women’s teams. The Chairman emphasized that the move reflects the Commission’s belief that continuous improvement is essential, irrespective of past achievements.

 

He assured the new head coach of full institutional support, stressing that stability, professionalism, and performance-driven management would continue to guide the club’s operations.

 

Popularly known as “Coach Shey,” Osazee brings a strong pedigree in women’s football to Asaba. He previously worked with Edo Queens, where he was part of a technically disciplined and tactically sound setup, before a brief stint with Insurance FC. His return to the NWFL is widely viewed as a major boost for Delta Queens, a club renowned for its rich history of league titles and FA Cup successes.

 

Speaking to journalists after his unveiling, Osazee expressed confidence in the task ahead, noting his familiarity with the club’s pedigree and ambitions. He said his immediate priorities include rebuilding confidence within the squad, injecting renewed energy, and steering Delta Queens back into contention for major honours, including qualification for the NWFL Super Six.

 

The coach also highlighted broader challenges facing women’s football, particularly issues around player welfare. He noted that improved remuneration and structured welfare packages would help curb the growing migration of players to foreign leagues. Osazee added that Delta Queens already possess a solid foundation, describing his role as one of adding intensity, direction, and cohesion to an existing winning culture.

 

Also speaking at the event, the club’s General Manager, Mrs. Mercy Awhana, welcomed the appointment with optimism, expressing confidence that Osazee’s experience and leadership would positively influence player development and overall team performance.

 

With preparations already underway, Delta Queens will now look to translate the technical overhaul into improved results on the pitch as they intensify their push to reclaim their status as a dominant force in Nigerian women’s football.
