President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has announced that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has enough petrol in storage to fully meet Nigeria’s needs.

Speaking over the weekend, Dangote revealed that the refinery currently holds over half a billion litres of petroleum and products worth more than N600 billion in its tanks.

He stated, “As of now, we have more than half a billion litres. The refinery is producing enough refined products, including gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, to meet 100% of Nigeria’s requirements.”

Dangote made this disclosure after a tour of the refinery complex by a Zambian Government delegation led by Minister of Energy, Mr. Makozo Chikote. He emphasized that the refinery is not just for Nigeria but for the entire African continent.

“This refinery is not only for Nigeria; it is for Africa. We are committed to supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and exploring trade opportunities with other African countries,” Dangote said.

The Zambian Minister expressed his admiration for Dangote’s vision for Africa, stating that the visit showcased how the refinery could help address Zambia’s energy challenges.

After touring the refinery and other facilities within the Dangote complex at the Free Trade Zone in Ibeju Lekki, Chikote was impressed by the scale and quality of operations. He expressed readiness to collaborate with Dangote to find energy solutions for Zambia.

Chikote noted, “In Zambia, 100% of our petroleum supply is managed by the private sector. We aim to increase productivity in mining, agriculture, and other sectors. Dangote’s refinery provides an immediate solution to our energy needs, and we are eager to bring them on board for efficient, reliable, and competitive products.”

Edwin Devakumar, Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, explained that the refinery produces the best quality products and is designed to add maximum value to crude oil.

He said, “Our concept was to process Nigerian crude and also provide flexibility to process other African and Middle Eastern crudes. Every barrel of crude is maximized for the best value addition.”

Devakumar highlighted that the refinery is capable of meeting 44% of Nigeria’s fuel requirements, with the remaining 56% set for export.

He detailed daily production figures, stating, “We produce 104 million litres of lighter products daily, including 57 million litres of petrol, 20 million litres of jet fuel, and 27 million litres of diesel. Local consumption is about 46 million litres, so 58 million litres will be exported daily.”

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is currently the largest single-train refinery in the world, and its operations are expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s economy while supporting energy needs across Africa.
