Serious tension don burst for Bangladesh after di country’s International Crimes Tribunal sentence di deposed Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, to death for crimes against humanity.

 

Hasina, 78, wey dey India and refuse return home face trial, was tried in absentia. Di court find her guilty for three counts — including incitement, ordering killings, and failure to stop atrocities.

 

Delivering judgment for a packed courtroom in Dhaka, Judge Golam Mortuza Mozumder talk say di prosecution prove all di elements of di crimes well-well.

 

Former interior minister, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, wey also dey on di run, get death sentence too for four similar charges. Former police chief, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, wey plead guilty, receive five-year jail term.

Immediately dem read di verdict, protest scatter for different parts of Bangladesh. Security agencies increase patrol, while police fire tear gas to disperse angry crowds for Dhaka.

 

Before di judgment, security already tight as more than 30 crude bombs don explode and 26 vehicles burnt across di country in recent days.

 

Hasina son, Sajeeb Wazed, tell reporters say he don expect di death sentence. He insist say his mama dey safe for India and “Indian security forces go protect her.”

Ironically, na Hasina own Awami League government set up di tribunal in 2010 to try people suspected of atrocities during di 1971 liberation war. After her removal in 2024, di interim government reconstitute di tribunal again.
