Comedian Destalker Reveals He Once Tried Internet Fraud Before Finding His True Calling in Comedy

Popular Nigerian comedian Destalker has opened up about a rough chapter in his life, revealing that he once tried his hand at internet fraud before finding success in comedy.

Speaking on a recent episode of the In-house Gist podcast, Destalker shared that he ventured into internet fraud while still living in Enugu but failed miserably because he was too kindhearted to deceive people.

“Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friends who is now a pastor, but I wasn’t successful at it,” he said. “Then we would book night sessions at the cyber café for ₦250. I couldn’t afford it then, so my friend always paid for me. He is now a big pastor, Rev. Nelson Umeh.”

Destalker explained that while his friend focused on finding victims to scam, he would spend his time chatting with family and old schoolmates on Facebook until he eventually fell asleep.

“While he was scouting for victims, I was busy chatting with my family, friends, and old schoolmates from Ughelli. After that, I would just sleep off,” he recalled. “There is no need for overspending when you are on the wrong lane.”

The comedian said his inability to scam people was a clear sign that fraud wasn’t his destiny, adding that his kind nature wouldn’t allow him to hurt others for money.

“I can’t defraud anyone because I am kindhearted. Because of all that I went through, I have grown so confident that no one can stop me from achieving my goal,” he said.

Reflecting on his rise in comedy, Destalker also recounted how some colleagues once tried to block his progress by preventing him from performing at certain shows.

“There were comedians who said without them I would not perform at some shows, and I told them that I would blow even without performing there. And I did,” he said proudly. “Some of those shows are gone now, and some of those comedians are no longer relevant.”

Destalker’s story has since resonated with fans, many of whom praised him for his honesty, resilience, and refusal to take shortcuts to success
