The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on 9 December 2025 decorated the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, with the rank of Colonel in recognition of her dedication, professionalism and outstanding service to the Nigerian Army.

 

The ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, marked a significant milestone in the spokesperson’s military career. Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, the COAS commended Colonel Anele for her exemplary commitment to duty and charged the Directorate of Army Public Relations to continue promoting the image of the Nigerian Army with credibility and responsibility.

 

General Alabi emphasized the critical importance of public trust in the success of military operations, urging the Directorate to strengthen transparent, accountable and timely communication on Army activities. He noted that effective strategic communication remains essential in enhancing national confidence in the Armed Forces.

 

The Army Chief further tasked Colonel Anele with upholding the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and loyalty, while mentoring younger officers to build the Directorate’s overall capacity and operational effectiveness.

 

In her vote of thanks, Colonel Anele expressed deep appreciation to Almighty God, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the COAS for what she described as their visionary leadership and guidance. She credited their mentorship as instrumental in her professional growth.

 

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including former Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd), mni, and Colonel Mustapha Anka (Rtd), mni, along with serving and retired senior officers, family members, friends and well-wishers.
