Former Delta Queens head coach, Samaila Samaila Marwa (Keshi), has reacted to the termination of his appointment by the Delta State Sports Commission, saying he accepts the decision and had already planned to resign weeks before it was announced.

 

Speaking after his exit, Keshi revealed that he took up the role with enthusiasm and clear professional objectives but was constrained by a lack of operational freedom needed to effectively manage the team.

 

“I welcome the termination. In truth, I had already made up my mind to resign about a month ago,” he said. “Unfortunately, I was not given the free hand needed to properly do my job. Still, I stayed committed for the sake of the players and the club.”

 

The coach dismissed any suggestion of a personal rift with the club’s leadership, describing his relationship with the Chairman as cordial and professional. However, he alleged that certain individuals within the club environment worked persistently to undermine that relationship.

 

“I have no problem with the Chairman. Our relationship has always been cordial. Sadly, there are people around the club who consistently tried to scuttle that relationship. It appears they have now succeeded,” he added.

 

Keshi also spoke on the personal significance of his appointment, noting that coaching Delta Queens represented a return home due to his family roots in Delta State.

 

“I was genuinely happy to return to Delta State. My mother is from Illah, so coaching Delta Queens felt like coming home. Unfortunately, it had to end this way, but I accept it with peace,” he said.

 

While acknowledging that there were other factors behind the situation, Keshi said he would refrain from discussing them out of respect for the sport and all parties involved.

 

“There are other issues I would rather keep to myself. This is football — sometimes things happen beyond the pitch. I will not say more for now,” he stated.

 

The former coach thanked the players, supporters, and football stakeholders in Delta State for the opportunity to serve and wished the club success in the future. He also confirmed that he remains open to new coaching opportunities.

 

“I appreciate the players, fans, and everyone who supported the project. I wish Delta Queens success going forward. My journey in football continues, and I am available for new opportunities.”
