Former Nigeria defender, Ben Iroha, has strongly told Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to ensure that Eric Sekou Chelle's contract as Nigeria Super Eagles Head Coach is extended, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Iroha believes the France-Mali born gaffer did extremely well as Super Eagles coach and thus, deserves more time with the three time African Champions.

"Super Eagles did well at the AFCON. The Coach equally did well. Not losing a single game in regulation time in all the seven matches the Super Eagles played during the AFCON is a testament of his quality", Iroha said to Exclusivenews.com.ng on Tuesday.

Iroha further stated that though his pre-AFCON expectation was gold medal win for the Super Eagles but quickly added that their performances during the run of the championship and their eventual bronze medal win was a welcome reward.

"When you look at the team's performances in the seven matches they played at the AFCON and the fact that they won bronze, you realise that the Super Eagles proved good Ambassadors Of the country at the AFCON.

"They did their best and you know penalty kicks is a lottery. When a game gets to penalty kicks, it becomes any body's game. So, I believe the team did well, Coach Chelle did well and deserves more stay with the team.

"I'm not in the position to decide for the NFF, but I think the coach did well. Reward for hard work, they say, is more work".

Iroha was part of Heartland FC coaching crew led by Kelechi Emeteole, which reached the 2009 CAF Champions League final, losing to TP Mazembe on away goal rule after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

Iroha also assisted Yemi Tella to win the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup for Nigeria's Golden Eaglets in Seoul, South Korea.
