The dates for the grand finalé of the rejuvenated FCT School Sports Fiesta, has been confirmed with a slight adjustment, and modification to its nomenclature.

Media Coordinator of the competition, Chinedum Ohanusi stated this in a release, heralding the concluding phase of the festival, whose zonal preliminaries were rounded off on March 2nd, 2024.

According to Ohanusi, the fiesta will resume on March 11th, twenty-four hours later than originally planned; with the arrival of the zonal winners, and in some cases their runners-up.

More remarkably, the competition, which was last held some twenty-five years ago, will henceforth be known as the Barrister Nyesom Wike School Sports Festival 2024.

According to figures made available by the Director FCT Secondary Schools Department, Mallam Hashimu Adamu, about 840 competitors are expected to arrive from the eight centers; and they are to be accommodated at the FCT Department of Science, Technology & Innovation, in Utako District for the duration of the competition.

"We have also listed six Chaperones, and fifteen members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to cater for their welfare and wellbeing, while here with us, and until they're handed back to their respective schools on March 15th"; Mallam Adamu asserted.

To this effect, the grand finalé which has also been confirmed for the Main Bowl of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, in Abuja and its adjoining facilities; shall end on March 14th, 2024, with the Minister of the FCT, presiding over an elaborate closing ceremony, during which trophies, medals and awards shall be given to deserving athletes and schools.

The festival which got underway on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 at eight designated centers - Abaji, Kwali, Kuje, Gwagwalada, Tunga Maje, Tudun Wada, Karshi and Dutse-Alhaji; featured events in track and field, volleyball, handball, football, table tennis, and board games; and in three categories - Primary, Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary Schools.
