The Chief Executive and Chairman, Chisco Group Limited, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, CON, on Thursday, 11th May 2023 paid a courtesy visit to UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, as well as embarked on a tour and inspection of the Chisco Institute for Transportation Studies in the institution.

Chief Anyaegbu’s visit was to inspect and assess the level of work done six months after his previous visit to the institute which he intends to make a full blown transport school having made his wealth through transportation business.

The Nigerian Businessman and Transport Mogul who had earlier donated a building in 2009 as part of his 50th birthday donation to humanity described the level of work done as marvelous while stating that he is impressed with the state of the art facilities and equipment seen at the different workshops visited on the inspection tour.

“I must say that I am impressed with the level of work put in here especially with the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities existing at the different workshops which is akin to what we see in places such as Europe and South America. As soon as here is set up fully, I will reach out to friends and captains of industries to visit here, invest in this institute as this place will be self making and self sustaining,” Anyaegbu said.

Anyaegbu informed that transportation is one essential thing that human beings need which informed the donation of a building in 2009 as he believed in the project despite being discouraged and advised to invest in ICT and other sectors such as Law.

“Transport is one of the essential things that human beings need as once one wakes up in the morning transportation kickstarts, then there is a limit where your strength and legs can carry you before you switch to mobile transportation which could be in form of automobile on land, rail, water or by air.

“I recall when i wanted to invest in transport studies, I was discouraged and advised to venture into sectors such as Law and ICT but as someone in the business I asked what happened to transport? As you can see that today no academic institution in the state is studying transportation as a course which is what necessitated this vision and dream of mine to support and fund the idea of setting up a transportation institute here at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka,” Anyaegbu stated.

The Amichi-born philantropist also disclosed that in his study during his time as the President of Bus Owners Association of Nigeria, he discovered that 68 percent of the transportation business owners in Nigeria came from Anambra State and it is a sad tale that no institution in the state teaches about transportation. He advised the youths of the state to take advantage of the Chisco Institute for Transportation Studies at UNIZIK to study transportation, learn how to manufacture, make repairs, enhance and develop their skills as well as eschew crime and social vices.

In his reaction, the Director, Chisco Institute for Transportation Studies, Engr. Dr. Paul Okolie eulogized the institution’s benefactor Chief Anyaegbu for his contribution towards the education sector by keying into the proposal and doling out huge funds for the actualization of the dream of setting up a well equipped Institute of Transportation Studies.

Dr. Okolie expressed his delight that the managers of the institute were highly commended by Chief Anyaegbu for the proper utilization of the funds earmarked for the project. The scholar also disclosed that in weeks to come the institute will start reaping the dividend of the set up in place at the institute.

Dr. Okolie further stated that the institute is set for a 12 to 14-day intensive training made possible by the Vice-Chancellor’s approval as they intend to bring in National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQ) into the University that will ensure that those who undertake the training will be equipped in line with global best practices.

Okolie disclosed the different trades offered at the Chisco Institute for Transportation Studies in areas such as Electrical Electronics, HVACR (Heat, Ventilation, Air Conditioner and Refrigeration), Welding and Fabrication, Automative Technology as well as Office Technology Management (OTM) to train typists and imbue trainees on ICT. He called on the youths of the state to take advantage of the existing institute to equip themselves with necessary skills that will enable them earn a living and contribute their quota towards societal development.
