The curtains have fallen on the MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays Lagos, wrapping up four electrifying days of athletics held across the Yabatech and Unilag Sports Complexes. The grand finale delivered a thrilling climax with standout performances across all categories, including sprint doubles and personal bests.

John Caleb capped an impressive outing with a sprint double, winning the Junior men’s 200m in 21.45s after claiming the 100m title earlier. In similar fashion, Bernice Onoriode dominated the Youth Girls’ sprints, adding the 200m title to her 100m gold to complete a stunning double.

Abdulaleem Abdulsalam also stamped his authority in the Cadet category, achieving a dominant double with personal bests in both the 100m (12.19s) and 200m (24.73s), showcasing Nigeria’s promising sprint future.

The relays brought the event to an explosive finish. In the men’s 4x100m, Team Continental’s quartet—Thankgod Igube, Emmanuel Ojeli, Chidera Ezeakor, and Favour Ashe—blazed to victory in 40.81s, ahead of Team Lagos (41.13s) and Benin Republic (41.96s). Their female counterparts—Iyanu Bada, Janet Adesiyan, Temitope Olusesan, and Lucy Nwankwo—also clinched gold with a time of 46.49s.

Emmanuel Ojeli dazzled in the senior men’s 200m, winning in 21.14s, while Patience Okon-George secured her second gold of the meet by dominating the women’s 200m in 24.11s, after her earlier triumph in the 400m.

In the junior women’s 200m, Hafsoh Bisola and Lucy Nwankwo both set personal bests, finishing 1st (24.61s) and 2nd (24.64s) respectively. Mighty Otunla stepped up from a 100m bronze to claim gold in the Youth Boys’ 200m, while Abigael Ogunbowale took top honours in the Cadet Girls’ 200m with a time of 27.32s.

Middle-distance events also saw fireworks. Hamid Sambo edged out a tight field in the men’s 800m, finishing in 1:51.70, while Adeyinka Mulero made a strong return to win the women’s 800m in a season-best 2:08.90.

The Youth 400m races saw Ibrahim Ahmed and Chizoba Onyemauwa clinch titles, with Onyemauwa clocking a personal best of 58.40s.

In the hurdles, Olorunwa Olowu stormed to a come-from-behind win in the men’s 400m hurdles, while Daisy Akpofa led a clean sweep in the women’s event alongside Sarah Kadiri and Oluwadamilola Esther Alli.

With intense competition, breakout stars, and blazing performances across the board, the MTN CHAMPS Lagos edition delivered unforgettable moments and reaffirmed Nigeria’s deep pool of athletic talent.
