The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has handed down a series of sanctions against the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), as well as several players and officials, following disciplinary breaches during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 Final.

 

The decisions were taken by the CAF Disciplinary Board, which ruled that multiple incidents during the final violated provisions of the CAF Disciplinary Code, particularly those relating to fair play, integrity and conduct.

 

Sanctions Against Senegal

 

CAF imposed heavy sanctions on Senegal, including suspensions and fines for both officials and players.

 

The head coach of the Senegalese national team, Pape Bouna Thiaw, was suspended for five official CAF matches for unsporting conduct and for bringing the game into disrepute. He was also fined USD 100,000.

 

Two Senegalese players were also sanctioned for misconduct towards match officials. Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two official CAF matches.

 

In addition, the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football was fined USD 300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, which CAF said brought the game into disrepute. The federation was further fined another USD 300,000 for the unsporting conduct of its players and technical staff.

 

CAF also imposed a USD 15,000 fine on the FSF after five Senegalese players received cautions during the match.

 

Sanctions Against Morocco

 

CAF also penalised Morocco for a series of incidents involving players, officials and supporters.

 

Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two official CAF matches, with one match suspended for a probationary period of one year, for unsporting behaviour.

 

Another Moroccan player, Ismaël Saibari, received a three-match suspension and was fined USD 100,000 for unsporting conduct.

 

The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football was fined USD 200,000 for inappropriate behaviour by stadium ball boys during the final. The federation was also fined USD 100,000 after members of the Moroccan team and technical staff invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work, in violation of Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

 

CAF further fined the FRMF USD 15,000 for the use of laser devices by Moroccan supporters during the match.

 

CAF Rejects Morocco’s Protest

 

CAF also ruled on a protest lodged by the Moroccan Football Federation concerning alleged violations by Senegal of Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations.

 

The Disciplinary Board rejected the protest in its entirety, ruling that the claims relating to the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 Final were not substantiated.

 

The decisions bring to a close CAF’s disciplinary process arising from the controversial final, which was marred by multiple incidents on and off the pitch.
