The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria three points and three goals from the disrupted Matchday 4 clash against Libya, initially scheduled for October 15 in Benina.

 

In a ruling released on Saturday, Chairman Ousmane Kane stated:

 

1. The Libya Football Federation violated Article 31 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

2. The match (No. 87) between Libya and Nigeria is declared a forfeit, with Libya losing 3-0.

3. Libya is fined USD 50,000.

4. The fine must be paid within 60 days of notification.

5. All other motions or requests for relief have been dismissed.

 

As a result, Nigeria now stands in a strong position to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, accumulating 10 points from four matches—four points ahead of second-placed Benin Republic and five ahead of Rwanda. Libya, with only one point, has been eliminated from contention.

 

A victory or draw against Benin Republic on November 14 will secure the Super Eagles’ place in the finals in Morocco, scheduled for December 2025 to January 2026.
