Borno State House of Assembly Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan has made a pressing appeal to the Federal Government to purchase a new aircraft for Vice President Kashim Shettima, citing the risks associated with the current "faulty" presidential plane. This urgent call follows an incident at New York's JFK Airport, where Shettima's plane was damaged by a foreign object, forcing him to cancel his trip to the Commonwealth Summit in Samoa.

The incident has sparked concerns about the Vice President's safety, particularly since the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence recommended replacing both the President's and Vice President's aircraft earlier this year. However, only the President's aircraft was replaced, leaving Shettima with the older, malfunction-prone plane.

Lawan expressed relief that no harm came to Shettima or his team and demanded a thorough investigation from the U.S. government regarding the JFK Airport incident . He emphasized the potential security concerns, even at one of the world's most secure airports.

"The life of the Vice President and his team remains at risk with the continued use of an unreliable aircraft," Lawan stated. "I urge the Federal Government to prioritize acquiring a new plane for Vice President Shettima to prevent further incidents."

It's worth noting that Senate President Godswill Akpabio previously refuted claims of proposing new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, labeling such reports as false and the work of propagandists. However, Lawan's appeal highlights the pressing need for ensuring the Vice President's safety and security.
