Bendel Insurance Versus Remo FC: NFF Appeal Committee Has Set a Standard…..Edo Dep Gov ….Says, Edo will be home to National, International Sports Activities

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu on Friday said the state Football Club, Bendel Insurance will abide by the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation appeal committee on matter between them and Remo Football Club.

He said with the committee’s decision, Bendel Insurance will continue with the remaining matches for the season but added that NFF has set a standard for other clubs who indulge in violence, especially against away teams.

“With this NFF appeal committee decision, I hope and wish that they will not move the goalposts when the match has started.

” I can tell you that one of our players is still battling with his eye balls as a result of injuries sustained during the fracas. It is an unfortunate situation that players will go after players, destroyed camera, club bus and inflic injuries on them. However, Iam happy that we made our points known to the world, especially the football organising body and a standard has been set for subsequent infringement and complaints.

“Honestly, we will continue with the remaining matches for the season. For the warning coming from them, we have the right to use any means to air our grievances in any way we dim fit. On complaints, clubs cannot be gagged.

On the signing of four years agreement with the Handball Federation of Nigeria, the former state and federal awmaker said it’s part of the policy of the Governor Godwin Obaseki led administration to make Edo State home to sporting activities in Nigeria. Hence, the construction of mini stadium across the eighteen local governments in the state.

“In Edo State, we will not just focus on football but every other sport. This informed the recent agreement we signed with the Handball Federation of Nigeria. We are going to extend it to every other sport. Today, that is why Nigeria will go to Olympics with just a few sports, while other countries will be presenting up to twenty or more, we will only go with few, our best not crowd. With what we intend to do with sporting activities in Edo State, with the facilities available, the sky will be our limit.

Comrade Philip Shaibu who once played for Nigeria in the Youth football game and a registered player of the Bendel Insurance Football Club, said the state is tapping into catch them young as Governor Godwin Obaseki recently announced a package for the Edo State ambassador to the Tokyo Olympics, Enoch Adekogoke.

He said as at today, Enoch is the fastest Nigeria in 100 meters race and hopes that he will make the state proud in winning a medal at the Olympics.
