Bayelsa Queens FC cruised to a comfortable 2–0 win over Ekiti Queens FC on Wednesday to reclaim top spot in NWFL Group A.

 

The Prosperity Girls bounced back strongly from last week’s 3–1 defeat to Heartland Queens FC, delivering a composed and dominant performance to secure maximum points.

 

Bayelsa Queens took the lead in the 24th minute through Bankole Sofiat, who capitalized on a goal-mouth scramble to fire her side ahead. Despite several attempts to double their advantage before the break, Ekiti Queens held firm defensively to keep the scoreline at 1–0 going into halftime.

 

On resumption, Bayelsa Queens intensified their attacking pressure, and their persistence paid off in the 55th minute. Delight Isaac outpaced the Ekiti Queens’ backline before calmly slotting home the second goal, effectively sealing the victory.

 

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Whyte Ogbonda expressed satisfaction with his team’s response following their recent setback.

 

“Yes, I’m happy today because the team played to the instructions given to them. And you know after our last game that we lost, the players were not happy and they gave their all today and we are happy with their performance,” he said.

 

“It’s a good thing that we won today. We needed more goals, but since it did not come, what is paramount for now is the three points and that is the most important thing. We’re happy we got it,” Ogbonda added.
