Barau FC Extend Unbeaten Run with 1–0 Win Over Ikorodu City in Kano
Barau Football Club continued their impressive unbeaten streak in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2025/2026 season after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Ikorodu City on Matchday 24.
The encounter was played on Monday, 2 February 2026, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, where the Maliya Boys claimed all three points against the Lagos-based visitors.
Barau FC forward, Uche Moses, proved decisive in the 29th minute, firing into the roof of the net from close range after a well-delivered cross from Hillary Ekawu. The strike marked Moses’ second goal of the season and ultimately separated both sides.
Both teams created several chances to alter the scoreline, but resolute defending and excellent goalkeeping ensured no further goals were recorded. Barau FC goalkeeper, Chisom Chiaha, was outstanding between the posts, making a number of crucial saves to protect his side’s narrow lead.
The victory lifted Barau FC to 13th position on the NPFL table with 30 points from 24 matches, easing relegation concerns as the season enters its decisive phase.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Barau FC head coach, Eugene Agagbe, expressed confidence in his team’s progress.
“As I told you before, Barau FC will escape the relegation zone within seven matches. Now we have just two matches remaining from what I earlier stated,” Agagbe said.
He also praised the collective effort behind the team’s recent form. “Being unbeaten in five matches is not easy. Our management, players, and fans have all done well in supporting us at this moment, and I must commend them,” he added.
Agagbe noted that the team’s attention is now firmly on the remaining fixtures as they aim for a strong finish to the season.
Meanwhile, match-winner Uche Moses was voted Man of the Match by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State Chapter. Midfielder Nana Abraham also received a yellow card in the 84th minute of the encounter.
Barau FC will next face Rivers United away in NPFL Matchday 25 before returning to Kano to host Kun Khalifat FC on Matchday 26 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.
