Ashleigh Plumptre’s Heroics Shine but Al-Ittihad Fall to Al-Nassr in Dramatic 3-2 SAFF Cup Clash
Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre delivered a standout performance for Al-Ittihad Ladies in the SAFF Women’s Cup derby against Al-Nassr, contributing a goal and a crucial assist. Despite her efforts as captain, Al-Ittihad suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat on Sunday.
Plumptre forced an own goal from Kathellen Feitoza in the 26th minute, giving her team an early lead. She later assisted Fatimah Mansour in the 62nd minute, momentarily restoring Al-Ittihad’s advantage. However, Al-Nassr rallied with late goals, including Nesrine Bahlouli’s stoppage-time winner, to secure the dramatic victory.
Plumptre’s commanding display, including 61 passes and 90 minutes of action, wasn’t enough to prevent the loss. Al-Ittihad will look to bounce back in their upcoming league clash against Al-Qadsiah on Saturday.
