Veteran goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu, popularly known as “Arugo Monkey,” has made a remarkable return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after three years away from the topflight.

 

The legendary shot-stopper featured for NPFL debutants Kun Khalifat FC in their league encounter against his former club, Bayelsa United. The match ended in a 1–0 victory for Kun Khalifat FC, with Ejiogu delivering an impressive performance and keeping a clean sheet against the Prosperity Boys.

 

Ejiogu’s return has drawn excitement among football followers across the country, given his long-standing reputation as one of the most decorated goalkeepers in Nigerian domestic football.

 

The goalkeeper first rose to national prominence in 2000 following Arugo FC’s successful campaign in the FA Cup, now known as the President Federation Cup. His outstanding displays during that period established him as a reliable and commanding presence between the posts.

 

Over the years, Ejiogu built a remarkable career that saw him win multiple trophies with different clubs across Nigeria. He holds the record as the player with the most President Federation Cup titles, having lifted the trophy seven times with various teams.

 

Throughout his illustrious career, the veteran goalkeeper has also claimed three Nigeria Premier Football League titles and two Nigeria Super Cup trophies. In addition, he played in two continental club competition finals, further cementing his legacy in Nigerian football.

 

His latest performance for Kun Khalifat FC not only marked a successful return to the NPFL but also demonstrated that the experienced goalkeeper still possesses the quality and composure that made him a household name in the league.
