A faction of strategic actors within the All Progressives Congress (APC), previously opposed to the leadership of Hyacinth Alia, has now aligned with the governor in a renewed push for unity and development under the “New Benue Renaissance” vision.

 

The shift marks a significant political turnaround, as key stakeholders have chosen collaboration over division, pledging support for the governor’s administration and its agenda for peace, security, and progress in Benue State.

 

Among the prominent figures backing this renewed unity is Pius Akuta, Managing Director of the Nigerian Shippers Council. Akuta emphasized the importance of collective effort in tackling insecurity, noting that meaningful progress can only be achieved through cooperation with the state government.

 

Governor Alia, since assuming office, has consistently called for peace and reconciliation, urging citizens and political actors to embrace unity as a pathway to sustainable development. Drawing inspiration from scripture, he has repeatedly stressed the need for forgiveness, truth, and harmony among the people.

 

Akuta, who described himself as fully aligned with the governor’s vision, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting developmental efforts in the state while maintaining his federal role. He also expressed confidence in Alia’s leadership, stating that the governor’s performance within a short period justifies support for a second term.

 

The growing consensus within APC structures follows the governor’s consolidation of influence during party congresses and conventions, signaling a new phase of political stability in the state. Observers note that this unity could serve as a model for other regions grappling with internal divisions and governance challenges.

 

Citizens across Benue have also voiced their support for a collective approach to governance, rejecting divisive politics and calling for constructive engagement aimed at advancing the state. The renewed spirit of togetherness is expected to accelerate ongoing projects, including road construction, rural development, healthcare expansion, and timely salary payments.

 

Central to the discussions is a comprehensive approach to addressing insecurity, which has remained a major concern in the state. Stakeholders have outlined key strategies, including strengthening grassroots intelligence networks, improving coordination among security agencies, deploying modern technology such as surveillance systems and drones, and ensuring justice through thorough investigation and prosecution of offenders.

 

Other measures include increased protection for rural communities and farmers, youth engagement initiatives to curb social vices, and active involvement of traditional and religious leaders in peacebuilding efforts.

 

The people of Benue have urged the governor to treat security as an urgent priority, emphasizing the need for proactive and sustained action. Their message is clear: the safety and stability of the state must remain paramount.
