World record holder and reigning African champion, Tobi Amusan, underlined her supremacy in the women’s 100 metres hurdles on Sunday, August 4, by securing her fifth consecutive national title at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Trials.

 

Competing at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos, Amusan exploded from the blocks and maintained a commanding lead from start to finish, clocking 12.57 seconds to cement her status as Nigeria’s premier hurdler.

 

The performance comes on the heels of her record-breaking run at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco, where she set a new meet record of 12.24 seconds in May 2025.

 

Adaobi Tabugbo claimed silver in Lagos with a time of 13.03 seconds, while Faith Osamuyi secured bronze, crossing the line in 13.36 seconds.

 

With the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo just weeks away, Amusan’s latest triumph further boosts her momentum and solidifies her position as one of the athletes to watch on the global stage.
