Emmanuel Amuneke, a former Nigeria international, has heaped plaudits on Victor Osimhen who was crowned African Player of the Year 2023 on Monday in Marrakhech, Morocco, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Osimhen, a Napoli of Italy forward, thus joins the likes of Amuneke, Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Ikpeba as the privileged Super Eagles players to be so honoured with the prestigious African Player of the Year Award.

On a night Nigeria swept virtually all the stakes in African Football in Morroco, Amuneke also praised Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala who won the African Player of the Year (Women), Chiamaka Nnadozie who was honoured with the Best African Goalkeeper (women) and as well congratulated the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, for the feat.

Amuneke spoke from the Moroccan Airport, in Cassablanca, while waiting for his connecting flight back to Spain, his base.

"I'm impressed with way Nigerians and Nigeria swept the awards during the CAF Awards in Morocco", the 1994 African Player of the Year began.

"I'm also happy that (Victor) Osimhen was voted as the African Player of the Year.

"No doubt, he really worked hard for it and indeed, duly deserved the honour.

"Asisat Oshoala, I'm also happy for her, for retaining her African Player of the Year (Women). Of course, I'm happy for Chiamaka Nnadozie for winning the Best African Goalkeeper of the Year Award.

"I must also say kudos to Super Falcons for winning the Best Women National Team Award and credit must go to the NFF for achieving such a wonderful feat.

"It shows something good is going on and we must commend them and all Nigerians. This is a happy moment and we must build on it".
