In a thrilling finale to the 2025 AMAC Football Coaches Unity Cup, New Boys FC of Karmo emerged victorious after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout against One Touch Worldwide FC. The tightly contested final, held over the weekend, ended 1-1 in regulation time before New Boys FC clinched the title with a 5-4 win on penalties.

Henry Paul opened the scoring for New Boys FC in the 18th minute, giving the Karmo side a first-half advantage. One Touch Worldwide FC responded in the 75th minute through Jonathan Simon’s well-taken equalizer, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. The two teams battled intensely until the final whistle, but with no further goals, the match proceeded to penalties.

In the shootout, New Boys held their nerve, converting four spot kicks, while One Touch managed to convert three.

The tournament, organized by the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Football Coaches Council, featured 22 teams and served as a celebration of football development and unity within the capital territory.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Leader of the AMAC Football Coaches Council, Kenny Owojori, expressed deep gratitude to all stakeholders who played a role in the successful organization of the Unity Cup 2025.

“We extend our profound appreciation to everyone who supported this initiative, especially Alhaji Adam Moukhtar Mohammed, Chairman of the FCT FA, for his unwavering backing of our programmes,” he said.

Owojori also acknowledged Mr. Haruna Usman Ilerika, Secretary of the FCT FA, and Mr. Bartholomew David, Chairman of the FCT Football Coaches Association, for their pivotal roles in promoting football development in the region.

Corporate and private sector partners were not left out of the praises. He thanked Alhaji Abdulsalam Tejumola of Shalom Construction Company and Engr. (Chief) Mojeed Adeshina of Jawab Sports Academy for their invaluable support and facility access during the competition. Additional gratitude went to partners such as EKG Ltd, Ramsaky Group, Supertech Roofing, Volt Kits, Citizen FM, Kapital FM, ECN Global Ventures, and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Special commendation was also reserved for Mr. Simon Etta Ojong, Coordinator of the Jiwa-Gwagwa-Karmo Football Coaches Society, for his innovation and logistical input that enhanced the tournament’s planning and execution.

“To all 23 participating teams, your discipline was exemplary throughout the tournament,” Owojori noted. “We also thank the Nigeria Referees Association, AMAC Society, and Mr. Abubakar Owolabi, Pitch Manager at Area 3, for their behind-the-scenes commitment.”

In closing, he lauded all members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Council members, and supporters for their dedication and hard work that made Unity Cup 2025 a remarkable success.

With New Boys FC lifting the trophy and setting a high benchmark, the AMAC Unity Cup once again demonstrated the power of grassroots football to unite communities and nurture future stars.
