The inaugural edition of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Football Coaches Women Championship has officially kicked off in the nation’s capital, featuring seven determined teams competing for glory in what promises to be a landmark event for grassroots women’s football.

 

Declared open by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairperson, Barrister Coach Victoria Nlemigbo, and supported by Coaches Council leader Owojori Kenny, the championship aims to foster the development of women’s football at the community level while giving young female talents a platform to shine.

 

The tournament features two groups:

• Group A: N-Youth Queens, Phoenix FC Queens, and Nazareth Queens.

• Group B: New Generation Sports, Diamond Star Queens, Hovel Angels, and Soccer Talent Queens.

 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Coach Victoria Nlemigbo expressed her excitement over the successful launch of the championship, describing it as “a new dawn for the girl-child in football within the Capital City.”

 

“This tournament is not just about competition. It is about creating an opportunity for young girls to express themselves, develop their talents, and build a future in football. The AMAC Coaches Women Unity Cup will now be an annual event aimed at boosting women’s football development in Abuja,” she stated.

 

The opening match between N-Youth Queens and Phoenix FC Queens set the tone for the tournament, ending in a thrilling 1-1 draw that showcased the raw talent and determination of both sides.
