Popular Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has publicly called out veteran movie director Afeez Owo for comparing her personality to that of his wife and fellow actress, Mide Martins, during a recent podcast interview.

In an appearance on the African A-List Podcast, Afeez Owo spoke about the differences between Wumi and Mide’s real-life personalities, stating that while Mide is calm and reserved off-screen, Wumi’s real-life character closely resembles the fiery roles she often portrays in movies.

“Mide’s character in the movie is totally different from real life, but Wumi’s movie role is close to her character in real life. Violence is her comfort zone. Wumi will react when provoked and doesn’t take nonsense. But Mide will remain calm even when offended,” Afeez said.

The remarks didn’t sit well with Wumi Toriola, who fired back in a now-deleted Instagram video, describing Afeez’s comments as “rubbish” and accusing him of using podcast platforms to fan unnecessary drama.

“Must every rift be taken to podcasts? They gave you a mic and pepper soup, and you started blabbing. Am I a mad woman? If people don’t offend me, will I be angry?” she said in the video.

Expressing her frustration, Wumi added, “I have never insulted you before. I still respect you despite your unfortunate behaviour.”

Her outburst has since sparked mixed reactions online, with fans divided over whether Afeez’s comments were inappropriate or simply taken out of context. Some defended Wumi’s reaction, noting that actresses are often unfairly judged based on their on-screen roles.

Both Wumi and Mide are widely known for playing strong, sometimes hot-tempered characters in Yoruba-language Nollywood films—a reputation that has followed them off-screen.

As of the time of this report, neither Afeez Owo nor Mide Martins has responded publicly to Wumi’s comments.
