The Technical Director of the All Stars Mega Badminton Championship, Bolaji Agarawu, has described the response to the 5th edition of the tournament as nothing short of extraordinary.
Speaking during preparations in Abuja, where the Local Organizing Committee is finalizing arrangements, Agarawu expressed his delight at the enthusiastic participation from players and veterans alike.
"The responses have been overwhelming and tremendous," he said. "We never anticipated such massive enthusiasm from players, veterans, and even ex-players in the diaspora. But considering the prize money—the largest in the history of the tournament—it’s easy to see why the turnout has been so incredible. The men's singles champion and women's singles champion have unprecedented rewards waiting for them."
Agarawu also reflected on the evolution of the championship, noting its expansion from primarily featuring legends and veterans to now including active players.
"Four years ago, I proposed the idea of involving active players to broaden the scope of the competition. COVID-19 delayed us, but today, seeing the heightened interest and passion from all sides shows we’ve made the right decision. This is truly a landmark moment for the growth of badminton in Nigeria."
He concluded with optimism, emphasizing the tournament’s potential to elevate the sport to new heights.
