The countdown has begun for the 4th edition of the Gusau-Ahlan Preseason Football Tournament, which is set to kick off at the end of July 2025 in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The highly-anticipated tournament has become a cornerstone of preseason preparations for Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs, offering them a competitive platform to test tactics, assess new signings, and fine-tune their squads ahead of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.

 

Tournament coordinator, Abahurai Dahiru, confirmed that all preparations are in top gear and commended the Nasarawa State Government, under the leadership of Engineer Abdullahi Sule, for proudly agreeing to host this year’s edition. The tournament has steadily gained prestige in the Nigerian football calendar and is now regarded as a crucial preseason fixture.

A host of NPFL heavyweights are expected to participate, including:

• Abia Warriors

• Katsina United

• Kano Pillars

• El-Kanemi Warriors

 

Other confirmed and expected teams include:

• Plateau United

• Warri Wolves

• Wikki Tourists

• Barau FC

• Additional sides from both the top tier and Nigeria’s lower divisions

 

These clubs will bring a blend of seasoned professionals and emerging talents, adding excitement and unpredictability to the preseason showdown.

The Nasarawa State Football Association, in conjunction with the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, has pledged full support to ensure the event’s success. Coordination efforts have been focused on logistics, pitch quality, security, and hospitality—ensuring that both players and fans enjoy a seamless experience.
