Akwuegbu In Talks With Five European Clubs For Partnership Cooperation With Plateau Utd
Plateau United, a Nigeria Premier League Football team may walked into a big business boom with European clubs as newly appointed Consultant, Benedict Akwuegbu, a former Super Eagles striker, settles down for the job, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
Akwuegbu, who during his illustrious playing career, featured for the four grades of the national team-----U17, U20, U23, Super Eagles-----has contacted no fewer than five clubs in Europe for partnership business with Plateau Utd.
Exclusivenews.com.ng findings reveal that Grazer AK, an Austrian club, is top on the list. There's also NK Bistrica of Slovenia, FC Sellier&Dallot Vlasim of Czech Republic, FC Vysocina Jihlava also of Czech Republic and an undisclosed German club.
Akwuegbu is understood to have traveled and held talks with the aforementioned clubs as Plateau Utd seek to set a high standard in bilateral cooperation with foreign clubs.
Under such arrangement, Plateau Utd will enjoy players transfer, kits supply, technical exchange program as management capacity building program.
Plateau Utd would as well travel as a team to such clubs for Preseason training where players would easily be scouted by foreign clubs scouts.
Recently, Plateau State Government appointed Benedict 'Austria Bomber' Akwuegbu as Sole Consultant of Plateau Utd.
Akwuegbu, born and bred in Jos, currently has a football club named 'Benedict Akwuegbu FC, in Jos. He had earlier sponsored Mbaise Utd FC, Owerri and Ben Akwuegbu FC, Owerri in the past in his 'giving back to the society' effort.
In 2010, Akwuegbu was appointed by then Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Rochas Okorocha, as Assistant GM of Heartland FC. Ther club went on to win the Federation Cup back to back in 2011 and 2012.
Recently, Akwuegbu went back to school to upgrade his academic knowledge, grabbing the First Class Bsc Hons at Anglia Ruskin University, A.R.U, London. He's now pursuing his Masters Degree Program.
"We've had some fruitful deliberations with the clubs. The parties have seen areas of mutual interest and agreement and hopefully, it will be a win-win thing for the clubs", starts Akwuegbu when Exclusivenews.com.ng called him up.
"It's not yet time for details. When all is sorted out, we'll make public our final agreement but I assure you, it will be good for Plateau Utd.
"I can only comment Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his vision for sports in the state, particularly Plateau Utd.
"His determination in engaging ex players is commendable and we must join hands together to ensure that this lofty dream is achieved", Akwuegbu concluded.
While still undergraduate of A.R.U, Akwuegbu won several awards including Best Achiver's Award.
