Benedict Akwuegbu, a former Super Eagles striker, has been appointed as Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, PFAN, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

The 50-year-old former Nigeria international who is nicknamed 'Austria Bomber' following his scoring quality while on the payroll of Austrian giants, Grazer AK, amongst other Austrian clubs, is currently undergoing his Masters Program in Mental Nursing in a United Kingdom University.

The former Assistant General Manager of Heartland FC, Owerri and now President of Benedict Akwuegbu FC, Jos, was on Monday, 10 February, 2025, named as Chairman of Plateau State PFAN Caretaker Committee with 'immediate effect'.

The Consultant To Plateau State Governor on Plateau United FC, during his illustrious career, featured for all the four categories of the National Teams----U17s; U20s; U23s and the Super Eagles.

In the appointment letter dated 10 February, 2025 and made available to Exclusivenews.com.ng and signed by Edema Godwin Fuludu, General Secretary of PFAN, Akwuegbu is expected to work with 11 other members including Peter Langeret as Secretary, Ms Angela Dngele and Sambo Choji as First and Second Vice Chairmen respectively.

Kelechi Okoye is to serve as Protocol Officer in the Caretaker Committee, Sam Pam will function as Welfare Officer while Mohammed Jafaru will serve as PRO.

According the letter Martha Chaji was handed the Coordinator role while Danjuma Isandu and Victor Wikadson are members of the committee.

John Fash Sabo and Blessing Yusuf were named as Coordinator 1 and Coordinator 2 respectively.

"This is to confirm to you Comrade Benedict Akwuegbu, that you've been appointed as Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Professional Players Association of Nigeria, Plateau State Chapter, by the President, Comrade Tijani Babangida, MON, effective 10 February, 2025, for a period not exceeding two years until formal elections are held in the Plateau State Chapter", the letter read in part.
