The Agrovest reality TV show, a programme designed to encourage youth participation in agriculture and agro- businesses, is set to be unveiled in Nigeria.

Emmanuel Abuhson, the convener of the Agrovest Reality TV, disclosed this on the sidelines of a news conference on Saturday in Abuja.

Abushon stressed on the importance of youth participation in agriculture.

He said the show aligned with the Federal Government’s efforts to combat current food challenges in the country and also reduce unemployment among young people by empowering them with technical know-how and agricultural skills.

The convener said that the show was aimed at educating and entertaining participants and viewers while promoting the idea that the future of food security relied on youth involvement in agriculture.

“As a 60-day agro-centric show, Agrovest is a pioneering concept that will take place in Niger in partnership with the Niger Government and key stakeholders in the sector.

“The first season tagged “Show Me the Money” promises an exciting experience; with a winning prize of N20 and an all-expense-paid trip to Rwanda for an agricultural excursion.

“This initiative is particularly relevant given the current food security situation in Nigeria, where an estimated 31 million people are facing a food and nutrition crisis,” he said

He added that by encouraging youth participation in agriculture, Agrovest was contributing to the government’s efforts to address the issue and promote sustainable development.

Alhaji Salisu Sheriff, Chief of staff to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, said the idea of the show was to change the way Nigerians thought and looked at agriculture and farming in general.

“It will also educate Nigerians on the importance of agriculture; it is a unique show and concept; through this show, young people will proudly embrace farming by changing the old beliefs of farming as dirty and dull.

“The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation reassures its commitment to the group as the aide believes that one of the effective ways to reduce poverty in Nigeria is agriculture,’’ he said.

Zainab Muhammed, an Agro economist, said that the show was targeted on youths and women who played substantial role in food production, processing and distribution.

“Young people can get involved in agro-business, agro-economy and other agricultural value chain.” she said.

Godfrey Petgrave, Head of agric department, Sydani Groups, said that the agrovest reality TV show was an innovative TV programme which the sydani group was pleased to be identified with.

According to him, the show is in alignment with the group’s mission for youth involvement in agriculture.
