In a major boost for sports healthcare in Nigeria, the All Federal Capital Territory Sports Association (AFSA) has secured exclusive diagnostic discounts for athletes nationwide through a strategic partnership with Everight Diagnostic & Laboratory Services Limited, an ISO 15189-accredited provider.

The agreement was formalized during a high-level courtesy visit to Everight’s headquarters in Abuja by AFSA leadership, led by its Chairman, Board of Trustees, Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

Sports medicine remains a critical pillar in athlete development, injury prevention, and performance optimization. The new collaboration is expected to significantly enhance access to world-class diagnostic services for Nigerian athletes, from grassroots to elite levels.

Commending Everight’s contributions, Hon. Dogara praised the organization’s two decades of excellence in healthcare delivery since its establishment in 2005. He highlighted its recent attainment of ISO 15189:2022 accreditation—an international benchmark for medical laboratory quality and competence—describing the facility as one of Nigeria’s most reliable diagnostic providers.

 

Speaking on behalf of Everight, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Everest Okpara welcomed the AFSA delegation and announced that athletes across the country will now enjoy preferential access to a wide range of services.

These include clinical pathology, molecular diagnostics, and advanced imaging such as MRI, CT scans, and ultrasound—all at discounted rates without compromising quality or precision.

The event also featured a recognition ceremony where Dr. Okpara and his wife, Roseline Okpara, were honoured with Gold Medals of Fair Play for their outstanding contributions to healthcare philanthropy and community development.

Representing Dogara at the event were senior board member Dr. Onwusoro Maduka, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, and former FCT Permanent Secretary Dr. Johnny O. Chukka, who also heads school sports under AFSA.

In his remarks, AFSA Director-General Agbor Clinton Ayuk called on athletes, coaches, and sports federations to take full advantage of the initiative.

“This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to empowering Nigerian athletes through better health infrastructure,” Ayuk said.

 “We urge the sporting community to leverage Everight’s accredited expertise for routine medical checks, injury assessments, and performance diagnostics to remain competitive on both national and international stages.”

 

The partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening athlete welfare and building a healthier, more competitive sports ecosystem in Nigeria.
