Adelani Impresses As Super Eagles B Secure Win over Ikorodu City
Shola Adelani continued his impressive form which saw him finish the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season as one of the top performers, with another blistering display as the Home -based Super Eagles B mauled his club, Ikorodu City 3-1 in a build up friendly game played Tuesday at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State.
The Super Eagles B side, who are preparing for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be held in three East African countries: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, made it three wins out of three with Adelani playing a pivotal role in his debut game for the national team.
Interestingly, Ikorodu City got their noses in front when they scored first in the ninth minute but Eagles equalised through Junior Nduka, who buried a well-taken free-kick in Ikorodu City’s net.
In the second half, the Super Eagles B took control and dictated the game. Midfielder Anthony Ijoma, restored Nigeria’s lead in the 66th minute with a cool finish from inside the box. Striker Sikiru Alimi put the result beyond doubt with a clinical strike in the 78th minute, sealing the third win in as many games for the CHAN-bound side.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles B have been drawn into Group D, arguably one of the most challenging in the tournament:
With the final squad selection imminent, this victory not only boosts team morale but also presents a final chance for fringe players to impress before the team list is finalized.
The final 23-man squad for CHAN2024 will be announced soon, as coach Chelle looks to trim his provisional list ahead of the team’s departure for East Africa.
