Abuja Online Publishers Get Steering Committee

Barely two weeks after its inaugural assembly under the umbrella of Abuja Online Publishers (AOP), the body has inaugurated it’s steering committee with the publisher of Ajasa Media, Martin Odiete unanimously appointed chairman and Shola Akingboye the secretary.

AOP gathering at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) FCT Chapter have resolved to unite for truth and accuracy in the emerging media industry.

The January 20, 2023 meeting (the second in the series in its ambition to come together as a body), had in attendance publishers drawn from across news genres operating primarily online. Abuja Online Publishers aimed to advocate the importance of verifiable and trusted online news media in a democratic society, and to encourage diversity and inclusion as reference point for high editorial standards.

The Association in the interim, have put in place a five-member steering committee chaired by Martin Odiete, Publisher Ajasa Media; to be assisted by Ignatius Ushie, publisher of Peaknews online; Sola Akingboye, publisher of RegentAfrica Times, as the Secretary, Gift Olivia, publisher of The Sight News; and Mrs Khadijat Oluwatoyin Ameen, publisher TeeTv News were appointed as Treasurer and Financial Secretary, respectively.

Two ad-hoc committees – for the drafting of the Constitution and Finance were also constituted with the former expected to conclude its terms of reference and report within two weeks. All the publishers in attendance were unanimous in their resolve to work together professionally and pragmatically in order to lay an enduring foundation for the online genre of journalism, which is the future of the pen profession.
