Abia Warriors FC delivered a spirited performance to defeat Niger Tornadoes FC 2–1 in an entertaining Matchday 31 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League at the Enyimba International Stadium.
The encounter lived up to expectations, with both sides producing an intense and action-packed contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The hosts struck early, as Suraj Lawal opened the scoring in the 6th minute. After receiving a pass from Casmir Azubuike, Lawal drove forward before curling a fine effort into the net to stun the visitors.
Despite a strong response from the Minna-based side, Abia Warriors maintained their attacking threat. Chances fell to Paul Samson and Kunle Adeleke, while Lawal narrowly missed an opportunity to double his tally before halftime.
Coach Imama Amapakabo made tactical adjustments in the second half, including the introduction of Emmanuel Ogbuagu, which proved decisive. In the 64th minute, Ogbuagu set up Azubuike, who calmly slotted home to make it 2–0.
Niger Tornadoes fought back and pulled one goal back in the 79th minute through Joseph Godfrey, setting up a tense finish.
However, Abia Warriors held firm, with late substitutions helping them maintain control and secure all three points in a hard-fought victory.
