The Management of Abia Warriors Football Club led by John Obuh has employed the services of soil scientists and grass analysts to put the Umuahia Township Stadium pitch in proper shape in  readiness for the second stanza of the  Nigeria Premier Football League.

The soil scientists, led by  Professor Mabel Ifeoma-Onwuka of the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources Management, College of Crop and Soil Science, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, have been working round the clock to ensure the pitch will be ready on time to host top flight games.

In an interview with newsmen at the pitch, the Professor said that after their initial tests, they discovered that the soil had "nutrients deficiency" which she said has been corrected as the pitch is now a beauty to behold.

She commended the Chairman, John Obuh for contracting experts to handle the pitch and expressed the belief that pitch will not suffer dilapidation with the type of job done on it.

Also speaking, Clement Oseh, a grass analyst from the Perfect Grass Homes, Abuja who has been busy with his men on the pitch, said the pitch has been resuscitated following the massive job his organization has put in within the last two weeks especially in areas of watering, also assuring that the pitch is good to go.

Recall that the organizers of the Nigeria Premier Football League had banned Abia Warriors from further hosting their home games at the Umuahia Township Stadium unless the state of the playing turf was improved upon.

Abia Warriors Technical Adviser, Erasmus Onuh said he received the news of the ban with shock and disbelief and expressed happiness that the situations has been remedied by the management.

"I hope Am back( to the Umuahia Township Stadium) because Am not comfortable playing on artificial turf because almost all the pitches in Nigeria is synthetic", he said.

According to the experienced gaffer, NPFL should encourage teams using natural grass by granting them subventions  to maintain their pitches.

Abia Warriors Chairman, Coach Obuh said he brought the experts to handle the pitch to ensure its readiness for the second stanza of the league.
