The Aba Sports Journalists (ASJ), on Saturday May 11th 2024, organized a send forth dinner party in honour of Super Eagles coach Finidi George.

The send forth dinner, was to appreciate  Coach Finidi George, for the wonderful working relationship he had with members of the Aba sports journalists during his three year spell as Coach of Enyimba football club.

Recall that during his reign as Enyimba Fc gaffer, the Bayelsa born tactician, won the league title with the “Aba elephants” and was also instrumental to the teams performance while playing continental football.

The event which was held at the prestigious
 Panyu Hotels Aba, saw sports journalist, business tycoons, friends of the media and fans of Coach Finidi George in attendance.

Delivering the speech, Chairman of the organizing committee of the event and a member of the Aba sport journalist forum, Mr Frank Okoye (orange man), appreciated  Coach finidi George’s working relationship with Aba sports journalists, and assured him of their continued support even as he moves up the ladder as Super eagles coach.

Responding, Coach Finidi George was full of praise to members of the Aba Sports journalists, thanking them for accepting him from the first day he resumed work as coach of Enyimba football club, up until his last moments in the team, while also assuring them that the love they showed him, will continue and promised of his accessibility whenever he is called upon.

“I sincerely thank every member of the Aba sports journalists forum, for their love and support, it was never easy initially when I arrived Aba to coach Enyimba Fc.  I was told lots of negative stories about accepting to work in Enyimba Fc back then, but when i arrived finally, the sports journalists in Aba, made things easier for me, as you guys all rallied round me as we won and fought battles together. 

“I will never forget this love and affection shown to me by you all, Aba remains my adopted home because it’s the platform the city of Aba game me with Enyimba Fc that has taken me to where I am now. I assure you all that as we climb up the ladder, we will do it together. I can also see the unity among you all in this forum as aba sports journalists, it shows in all you do, and that’s why Aba today is heard everywhere in the country and the world at large, with the stories you all push out there as sports journalists”.

High point of the event was the eulogy segment , where friends, fans and sports journalists in Aba had great words for Coach Finidi George, as also his assistant coach at Enyimba Fc, Coach Yemi Olarenwaju, also expressed his loyalty and support for Coach Finidi George during their years of working together in Enyimba Fc.

The event also saw presentation of gift items to Coach Finidi George by members of the Aba sports journalists, friends and well wishers, winning and dinning, as coach Finidi George danced and celebrated with the sports journalist in Aba.

The Aba sports journalists forum, is a body made up of Sports Journalists in Aba, with the mandate of promoting and reporting Sports activities within the city, state and country at large.

The group has 40 very active members, with most of its members having covered many international sporting events in the world.
