Global music star 2Baba has described Burna Boy as the leading Afrobeats artist, saying he currently operates on a different musical level compared to peers like Davido and Wizkid.

 

Veteran Afrobeats icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has weighed in on the long-running debate surrounding Nigeria’s Afrobeats “big three,” placing Burna Boy at the top of the current global music scene.

 

Speaking during a recent appearance on the Mic On podcast, the award-winning singer said he appreciates the artistry of Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid, but believes Burna Boy is presently operating on a higher level musically.

 

“I have my favourite songs from each, from all of them,” 2Baba said. “But if I must be put on the spot, I think Burna is on the top of the game right now.”

 

The music legend likened comparing Afrobeats stars to comparing painters, noting that each artist brings a distinct style and creative identity to their work. According to him, such comparisons are largely subjective and depend on individual taste.

 

“Different artists have different styles. There’s nothing like this one sing pass,” he explained. “Different people have different tastes in what they want and what they like.”

 

2Baba was quick to clarify that his comments were not based on commercial success, personal achievements, or rivalries among the artists. He stressed that he was not considering financial earnings or private milestones in forming his opinion.

 

“I don’t know their bank accounts. I don’t have any information about their personal successes or all that. So I can’t speak on that,” he said.

 

Rather, the veteran singer explained that his assessment was based on his understanding of the global music landscape and Burna Boy’s current international presence and influence.

 

“But from what I can measure from at least common sense and understanding of the music world, I think right now Burna is at the top of this chain,” 2Baba added. “Not just in Nigeria, in Africa, in the world. He’s on that, but everybody’s doing fantastically well.”

 

Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid are widely regarded as Nigeria’s Afrobeats “big three,” a label that has fueled years of fan debates over who truly reigns supreme. 2Baba’s remarks have since reignited the conversation, drawing mixed reactions from music lovers across social media.
