A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Modestus Umenzekwe, has dismissed the chances of any political coalition unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, declaring that the president’s policies and performance have already earned him broad national support.

 

Speaking during an interview in Awka, Anambra State, Umenzekwe—an influential political figure and traditional titleholder—mocked the recently unveiled African Democratic Coalition (ADC), describing it as a collection of “strange bedfellows” lacking any clear or sustainable agenda.

 

“Coalitions are normal in politics,” Umenzekwe said. “But this particular one is built on a sandy foundation and will collapse. You can’t unite people who don’t share common ideology or values.”

 

He praised the Tinubu administration’s tough but necessary reforms, noting that policy decisions like the removal of fuel subsidy, implementation of student loan schemes, increased agricultural support, and greater financial autonomy for states are already yielding results.

 

“Almost all the governors today say they are not borrowing. The subsidy removal gains are trickling down to the states. The FCT under Nyesom Wike is wearing a new look. Farmers are receiving support, and our airports are moving toward global best standards,” he noted.

 

On the growing calls for a Southeast presidency in 2027, Umenzekwe acknowledged the region’s aspirations but reiterated his full support for Tinubu and the APC.

 

“Power is not given; it is taken. If the Southeast wants the presidency, let them go for it. But as far as I’m concerned, Tinubu will be in office till 2031 if he decides to contest,” he said. “Nigerians across all regions, including the North, will support him. The South must also be allowed its turn in the power rotation.”

 

Despite not holding any current government appointment, Umenzekwe affirmed his loyalty to national development.

 

“Power comes from God. You don’t need to be in government to contribute to building a better nation,” he stated.

 

He concluded with a warning to the opposition, signaling readiness for political battle ahead of 2027. “We are watching them closely. When the jungle matures, our strategy will be clear. Tinubu hasn’t even declared for 2027, yet they’re panicking. That tells you how strong his leadership truly is.”
