Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Senate President, Mr. David Mark, has stated that the party has no preferred presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections. He made this declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting with the Kogi chapter of the ADC held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mark emphasized that the ADC’s priority is to establish a credible and widely acceptable political platform, not to promote individual ambitions at this stage. According to him, the party’s focus is on saving Nigeria from decline through unity and transparency.

“The ADC has no preferred or favourite presidential aspirant,” Mark said. “Our goal is to build a platform that will resonate with the majority of Nigerians. We are doing this because we do not want this great ship called Nigeria to sink. If it does, we will all be affected.”

He further reiterated the inclusive nature of the ADC, describing all members as equal stakeholders.

“I don’t own this party more than any of our members,” he stated. “We must come together and show Nigerians that the ADC is different—a party committed to genuinely running a democratic system that puts the people first.”

Mark urged party members to set aside internal divisions and concentrate on rebuilding the party before individual ambitions are pursued. He also condemned the ongoing trend of political mudslinging and called on politicians to focus on national issues, especially insecurity.

“Let us stop attacking one another. Instead, let’s focus on solving the key issues affecting our country,” he said. “The ADC, if elected to lead, will prioritize the security and welfare of all Nigerians.”

Meanwhile, a controversy is brewing within the party’s legal landscape. Mohammed Sheriff, leader of the ADC’s National Legal Support Group, revealed that a lawsuit has been filed against the party’s interim leadership using the names of individuals who are not registered ADC members.

Sheriff explained that thorough checks of the party’s physical and digital registers in Kogi and Nasarawa States confirmed that the names in the suit are not legitimate members. He assured stakeholders that the party’s legal team, made up of no fewer than 97 lawyers, is ready to defend the ADC’s interests in court.
